Software Maintenance



Software Maintenance Service is a fee-based program that provides customers with ongoing access to support service and regular product improvements. It includes the following benefits:

  1. Product updates, both major and point-level releases, i.e. all updates, upgrades and any version changes if released during the one-year period, free of cost.

  2. Telephonic and email access to Technical Support Engineers

Explanation of some terminologies used :

1) Subscription Service

Whenever a new MATLAB license is sold, by default the customer gets a One-year Subscription Service free of Cost. This Subscription Service gives the following benefits to the customer.

  1. Product updates, both major and point-level releases, i.e. all updates, upgrades and any version changes if released during the one-year period, free of cost.

  2. Telephonic and email access to Technical Support Engineers.

2) Renewal Fees

It is known as the Renewal Pricing. At the end of the one-year period of free Subscription Service the customer can Renew the Subscription Service for another period of One Year. This he has to do if he wants to avail of the Subscription Service and the benefits thereof.

3) Fixed Restart Fee

It is commonly known as the Upgrade Pricing. If the customer was not under the Subscription Service and wanted to upgrade to a newer version of the product, he had to pay the Fixed Restart Fee (Upgrade Prices) and his Subscription Service would be restarted. He would get the new version and his Subscription Service would be for a period of one year from the receipt of the Payment. This option has been eliminated.



The Highlights of the new policy are as follows:

The Fixed Restart Fee has been eliminated. The Fixed Restart fee, which was known as Upgrade Pricing is now no longer available. Rather then the Fixed Restart fee, back maintenance will be required to reinstate the subscription. Back Maintenance is calculated by multiplying the monthly renewal fee by the number of months the Subscription Service has lapsed. There are other sub clauses in this, which are mentioned below.

Once the Subscription Service has lapsed three months or more, an additional reinstatement fee will be applied. The reinstatement fee is 5% of the then prevailing List price. The then prevailing list price means the list price of the products, which is applicable at the time of renewing the Subscription Service.

Due to significant growth in product functionality, licenses with Subscriptions that have lapsed for more than four years will require the purchase of a new License for the products.
