Technical Computing

MATLAB® and companion toolboxes provide engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and educators with an environment for technical computing applications. These products serve a broad range of tasks across a variety of industries from automotive and electronics to industrial equipment and telecommunications.

The technical programming language and extensive collection of mathematical functions make it easy to perform analyses and develop application-specific algorithms with just a few lines of MATLAB code. MATLAB offers fast and accurate solutions to the most complex mathematical problems.

With more than 600 mathematical, statistical, and engineering functions, MATLAB gives you immediate access to high-performance numeric computing. The numerical routines are fast, accurate, and reliable. The math is optimized for matrix operations, so you can use it in place of low-level languages like C, with equal performance but less programming.

Linear algebra and matrix computation
Fourier and statistical analysis functions
Differential equation solvers
Sparse matrix support
Trigonometric and other fundamental math operations

Because most of the MATLAB functions are written in M-code (the MATLAB language), you can view and modify the underlying algorithms. In addition to the hundreds of core math functions provided, MATLAB also makes it easy to create your own customized functions. You can call multiple MATLAB math functions (M-files) from a single routine to create a whole new function. MathWorks developers rely on the MATLAB core functions to produce many Toolboxes and other products.

The MATLAB ODE Suite, a collection of M-files for solving ordinary differential equations, offers a significant enhancement to the numerical integration capabilities of MATLAB. The ODE suite features stiff and non-stiff system solvers, as well as support for sparse systems and mass matrices. Optional features include interfaces to Simulink integrators and systems, and specification of output points and integration backward in time.
