THE Indian electronics, semiconductors and wireless industries will adopt model-based designing to save time on designs during research and development (R&D).
Model-based designing allows engineers to mathematically model the expected behaviour of a product, design software to follow that behaviour, and finally simulate it. This allows them to accurately predict and optimise the performance of the final product.
At the MATLAB & Simulink Tech Expo 2005 conducted by Cranes Software International and The MathWorks, Mr Arun Mulpur, DSP Product Marketing Manager, The MathWorks, spoke to Business Line about the sudden rise in adoption of model-based design tools in India.
He attributed this growth to adoption by research and development centres that have sprung up recently. The US-based The Mathworks is a maker of tools for simulation and model-based design and Cranes Software International are their vendors in India.
Mr Jason Ghidella, Technical Marketing, Simulink Products, The MathWorks gave an example of Honeywell Systems using this method for designing a safety-critical flight security system. "The company saved 60 per cent of their design time," he said. Another advantage of this is improvement in quality standards. Previously the company was incurring huge overheads and errors were checked manually At present, the education sector leads the revenue distribution pie with 43 per cent. However, revenue from this sector is expected to decrease. Other users of the solutions are industrial equipment makers, aerospace, defence and automotive companies.
Mr Zakir Hussain, Product Manager - The MathWorks Group, Cranes Software International, said that Indian electronics and wireless companies are adopting model-based designing at a fast rate.
